Pantone's Color(s) of the Year
Yesterday, Pantone announced its 2016 Color(s) of the Year. It is the first time Pantone has chosen to name two colors for the Color of the Year. They are being dubbed twins (paternal?) and are Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-1520) and Serenity (Pantone 15-3919), a pale pink and soft blue. I must admit that I am happy they did not select white. I was secretly hoping their choice would be something in the blue family. If you read my blog (yesterday’s post), you already know how I feel about blue and as Dr. Schauss, a scientist who studied color and it’s effect on human behavior back in the 1960s, once said, “It is impossible to remain angry in the presence of pink.” The colors Pantone has selected for the upcoming year are soft pastels. They are soothing and invoke a sense of calm, which after the year of tragedy and turmoil we all have experienced, soothing and calm may be exactly what we all need. Here’s a look at a few spaces that are already on trend with the 2016 Color of the Year. What are your thoughts about Pantone’s selection? Let me know in the comments!

Feeling Blue
I don’t know what it is about blue in a space that excites me but it is my opinion that you can never go wrong with having blue in your home. Whether it is in the form of a paint choice, cabinetry, furniture, upholstery or window treatments, blue is a winner. One could say I am drawn to it because it is my favorite color but when I see an interior space that utilizes blue in its design, my heart skips a beat. Blue is not typically considered a neutral color, as we have been programmed to accept it as masculine but I have seen it used in many spaces that definitely imply a soft and feminine quality. Blue lands on the cooler spectrum of the color wheel but can be paired with warmer shades to create an inspired space. I typically prefer deeper shades of the hue but I find the lighter shades to be equally as inviting and occasionally, even, exciting.

How gorgeous is this custom vanity?!

Bedrooms for a Rainy Day
It’s raining here in DC today and I don’t particularly feel like doing anything that involves getting out of bed so today’s post will be dedicated to bedrooms. Like the bathroom, I feel like the bedroom should be a calming oasis. A place that welcomes you with open arms and reassures you that everything will be okay after a good night’s sleep. A few requirements for my perfect bedroom are good pillows, white sheets, a duvet, a soft rug and lots of natural light for the sunny day and accent lighting for the rainy ones. I love bedrooms that are simple and crisp but I also like those that are moody and dark. A few common misconceptions about bedroom design are that all your casework (nightstands, dressers) and table lamps have to match or that all your finishes have to be the same. And while you should try to maintain some consistency to tie the room together, it is not necessary that everything come from the same store or have the same look. Take a peek at my picks and comment which bedrooms you like the best and why.
