Givenchy Shark Lock Fold Over Wedge Boot

I know.  These boots look somewhat ridiculous.  But I've been obsessing over them for months and every time I run across them on the Internet, I'm struck with a new wave of obsession.

Fall Into Fringe

Towards the end of  last year, I started getting a random itch to wear all things fringe. I didn't follow up on it and I find that 8 months later, the itch is still there.  As Fall approaches, I think I will listen to the urge and fall into fringe (see what I did there).

BELIEVE

I like this hat.  I mostly just like the message. But however it comes, it still gets my point across.

Wild for Animal Prints

Of the many things I love, somehow, this summer animal prints have found themselves near the top of the list. I especially love pairing them with bold colors. Here are a couple of ways I've mixed and matched them this summer and a couple of ways I hope to try out in the near future.

I'm bringing fanny (packs) back...

This summer it's been too hot to carry around much more than is necessary and that includes a handbag of any sort.  I've been roughing it with a wristlet all summer but even that has its drawbacks, as my hands are always full with the things that won't fit into my wristlet.  So I've decided to bring fanny packs back. Go ahead and laugh and while you're huge handbag is causing you to sweat through your silk blouse or you're constantly dropping and losing important items, I'll be light as a feather and free as a bird with my fanny pack.

Overall overalls

Since style has been on my mind a lot lately, I've decided to share some of my other style thoughts I am considering acting upon.  At some point earlier this summer, I decided I wanted a pair of denim overalls.  I've looked high and low and in thrift stores galore but I have yet to find a pair.  I've gotten close, with a few, "We just had a pair last week but we sold them.", stories but alas, no cigar.  I've already styled them in my head, I just need to find the perfect pair.  Here are a few ways in which I intend to wear them.

Wrangler

Yesterday while I was wandering around (not lost, just wandering. *cue Adele's 'Hometown Glory'*), I had one of many fleeting style thoughts in which I come up with quirky style/fashion ideas.  These "style thoughts" occur randomly as I'm out and about. Sometimes I act on them and sometimes I don't.  The last time I acted on one of these thoughts, I started wearing bow ties. Well, yesterday's thought involved Wrangler denim.  I quickly googled Wrangler to see if they are still manufactured and to my surprise, I found that Wranglers are actually a cool thing these days.  I guess what I thought was an original style idea, was not, and I am, in fact, late to the Wrangler party.

Inspiration

I find that I am happiest when I am in an inspired state of mind.  When I am inspired to create, I come alive.  But sometimes I find inspiration in strange places.  Last week while watching the movie, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, I was inspired by the costumes, the luxurious silks, velvets, brocades, and damasks, the elaborate details put into the costumes, wigs and other accoutrements and the richness in color of the fabrics used.  It is such attention to detail that intrigues, stimulates and ultimately, inspires me.  Here are a few images from the movie I found online:

Oh Honey...

On Tuesday, I took to a trip to Whole Foods to do my weekly grocery shopping and as I have been out of honey to use in my tea, I stopped in the honey aisle.  To be honest buying honey always has a slightly bewildering effect on me as there are always so many options and all the options are expensive.  I never know which option is the best choice and making the best choice is something that is and has always been really important to me.  I usually pick clover honey because it’s the most familiar, I grew up using clover.  But this day I decided to do something different.  I whipped out my iphone and googled each type of honey, clover, orange blossom and wildflower.  And what do you know, I got my answer.

The numerous honey options.
Bewilderment ensued.
Wildflower, Orange Blossom and Clover Honey.

Clover honey is honey produced by bees that feed primarily on the nectar of clover plants.  It has a mild and slightly floral flavor (source www.wisegeek.com).  Orange blossom honey (aka citrus honey) is produced by placing beehives in citrus groves and is said to have an orange flavoring (source www.wikipedia.com).  Tupelo honey is harvested from bees that pollinate the tupelo tree, which grows along rivers and swamps in Florida (source www.honeyforhealth.com).  Wildflower honey (aka polyfloral honey) is derived from multiple nectar sources and such the taste can vary from year to year (source www.ebeehoney.com).

My final choice:  Wildflower Honey.
Honey can range in color from pale amber to very dark.  The darker the honey the more anti-oxidant properties, vitamins and minerals it contains.  Honey has many health benefits.  It is a natural energy booster, has beneficial effects on the immune system with numerous anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties and has been known to treat many common ailments (yeast infections, minor cuts and burns, athlete’s foot and arthritis pain) (source www.benefits-of-honey.com).

Accoutre Love

There are the times when I think the Universe is challenging me to show her why I "deserve to have it all" and then there are the times when I know she is listening and delivering.  Yesterday, was one of the latter.  A week or so ago, I said I needed more pink in my life and yesterday, I received a lovely pink corduroy bow tie from Accoutre (thanks, Chloe!!).  I love it!  Don't you?!

Also note the delicate printed tissue paper the tie was packaged in, such an elegant touch! I really love when businesses take the time to think about the little things that may delight a customer and make their experience just a little bit more wonderful. Kudos Accoutre!

Stubbs and Wooten

I've been obsessing over Stubbs and Wooten slippers for a long while now.  After spending an entire day of thinking about velvet (see my other blog, www.aposhplace.blogspot.com), I couldn't help but be drawn back to my desire for a pair of these lovely little velvet slippers.  Here are a few I like best.

The Sweet Lobby

Yesterday, I picked up a box of macarons from The Sweet Lobby for my my friend, Chloe, in celebration of buying her first home.  There were so many options to choose from, it was difficult just deciding on six. They looked so pretty and delicate in the case, it seemed almost cruel to gobble them up like I was sure we would. I ended up selecting Rose, Hazelnut Praline Salted Caramel, Mocha, Mango, Lemon and Mint Chocolate. I purchased one Hazelnut Praline Salted Caramel macaron for myself and being that it was a temperate winter day, I took it outside to enjoy in the sunshine.  The deliciousness of that macaron was incredible.  After it was gone, I could feel my taste-buds still savoring it, almost as if they were dancing.  It was very difficult not to buy another.  I think my cupcake addiction has been replaced by a macaron addiction so needless to say, I will be visiting The Sweet Lobby again!

A Touch of Sparkle

I think I may be slightly obsessed with all things sparkly this year, from sprinkling glitter all over my twitter timeline to sequined leggings and now these sparkle-riffic phone cases from Simply Fabulous.  I just can't seem to get enough sparkle.

Heart of Man

A couple of weeks ago, I commented that I learn of at least 5 new awesome things each day.  Earlier this week, I met Marcus Noel of Heart of Man Clothing and discovered yet another new awesome thing.  It was apparent right away that Mr. Noel was extremely focused, driven and fashion savvy.  During the course of our brief encounter, Marcus told me that Heart of Man seeks to help underserved children while taking fashion to a new level.  Through further research, I learned that a portion of the proceeds from each article of clothing Heart of Man sells is donated to a non-profit that serves disadvantaged children by helping them realize their life potential and escape poverty. I was super impressed by Heart of Man's mission and look forward to making my own contribution as well as adding a letterman's sweater to my wardrobe!
